The month of October marks the birthday of BodyTonic Massage Therapies, and this year, we're celebrating the big TWENTY ONE!!
I know we all say how fast time flies, but seriously, how can I be this young AND have a business that is 21 years old??? 🤔 🤣
I've learned so much over this time, and yet I still feel like I don't know anything.

I'm sure this has happened to you, I know I have done it to others, but I was recently reminded of how annoying this can be.
I was talking with a friend about a problem I was having and the steps I was taking to fix it. Then, when I finished talking, she started to outline a plan that she felt would help. The problem was, it was all pretty much exactly what I told her I was already doing!
I felt really deflated and totally unheard.
When I see you for a massage, my honest hope is that you never feel this way when discussing the reasons you have made an appointment for a treatment.

One of the hardest things to manage as a sole oper

One of the hardest things to manage as a sole operator is when I'm too unwell to work. Thankfully, this is rare, but it's so disheartening to have to either cancel or reschedule patient appointments. I know how much people look forward to their sessions for so many reasons - stress management, pain management, rehabilitation, and relaxation.
So, thank you for your patience and understanding to those who have had to have disruption to their care plans currently. Your continuing support means so much, and I'm resting hard to be back on board ASAP!

I still regularly meet people who have no idea tha

I still regularly meet people who have no idea that there is a difference between remedial and relaxation massage.
It's not really surprising as there often isn't really a price difference and the therapist doesn't generally explain the difference.
Now don't get me wrong a relaxation massage can be exactly what is needed in the right circumstances, BUT, if you are seeking out a massage because of pain or dysfunction in your body a relaxation massage is not going to meet your needs.
As the graphic explains a remedial therapist has spent years studying anatomy and physiology and therefore understands the structures beneath the skin. This is really important especially as you are putting your trust in this person to help make you feel better and not potentially make the issue worse through incorrect techniques.
If in doubt simply ask the therapist what qualifications they have or if they are a remedial therapist.
I hope this makes choosing the right treatment for you easier!

Honestly, all we want is to provide the best experience and therapy for you so a little communication between patient and therapist goes a very long way.
After all, if we don't know....we don't know.

I thought I'd try a little click bait! But serio

I thought I'd try a little click bait! But seriously, today, I had a new patient with a health concern that was something new for me. I admitted that I didn't know anything about what they were presenting with but then proceeded to ask a lot of questions with the promise of doing some homework after they left to try and find some answers.
BUT WHAT SHOCKED ME was that they had already asked a couple of other health professionals who, instead of helping, shrugged their shoulders and answered with "no idea" and left it at that!!
In my opinion, if you're a health professional who has chosen your career to help people, it is your JOB to do that! That doesn't mean you have to know everything.
Sometimes, it means doing some research for answers and something it might mean, referring the person to someone else who can help. What it doesn't mean is shrugging your shoulders and walking away.
Imagine how frustrated you would feel if you were treated this way by someone you put your trust in.... Rant over.
